In just a few hours, the calendar year will change. A fresh start for many. Out with the old and in with the new. Time for a some resolutions…which will be stuck to for a few hours, days, or even weeks before we slide back into our old routines.
How can we be successful in our New Year’s resolutions? Here’s your preflight checklist. It will take a little bit of work, but you’re worth it and I believe in you. Success is yours, take it!
- Pick ONLY 1 Resolution. Any resolution (from hereon out referred to as a habit) takes 40 continuous successful days to create or modify. Miss a day and you have to start over at day 1. Willpower is a finite resource that will be greatly depleted in changing one habit. Multiple resolutions will most likely lead to difficulty tracking, frustration, and failure.
- Follow through, follow through, follow through. Now you’ve weeded it down to 1 resolution and you’re working on it, several days or a week has passed successfully, but suddenly a slip up into old patterns.
What do you do? Repeat it. This is a life change that you’re creating. A new life habit. Restart your day count at 1 and remember you already have more successes than failures so the statistics are now working for you, not against you! - Celebrate your success! After you’ve gotten to your 40th day, celebrate your success. Whoop it up. It’s a big deal, you’ve just changed your life and the way your brain works. Feel as good as you can about it. Now start looking at your next opportunity for growth…one at a time and you can build an amazing life!
I hope this has helped you want to and begin to take control of your life! You can do it! You’re AWESOME!
